Setup

Connect GA4, GTM, and Shopify to enable Lumen's automated monitoring and audits.

Connect your data sources to start Lumen's automated monitoring. Each source you connect adds a new annotation track to your timeline and unlocks additional checks.

GA4

Connecting GA4 triggers an immediate configuration audit. Findings appear as annotations on the timeline and as warnings in the integrations area.

What Lumen audits:

CheckWhat it looks for
Data retentionSet to 14 months (not the 2-month default)
Enhanced measurementKey events enabled (scrolls, outbound clicks, file downloads)
Conversion markingPurchase and lead events correctly marked as conversions
Referral exclusionsPayment processors excluded (PayPal, Stripe, Klarna, etc.)
Consent Mode v2Default consent state configured for each region
Cross-domain trackingDomain groups configured if you use multiple domains

How to connect:

  1. Go to SettingsData Sources
  2. Click Add Data SourceGoogle Analytics 4
  3. Sign in with your Google account and grant read access
  4. Select the GA4 property to monitor
  5. Click Save

Lumen runs the initial audit immediately after connecting. Results appear within a few minutes.

The GA4 audit re-runs monthly and any time you reconnect the property. You can also trigger a manual re-audit from the data source settings.

GTM

Connecting GTM enables three monitoring capabilities:

Version monitoring — every time a container is published, Lumen diffs it against the previous version and creates a timeline annotation summarizing what changed (tags added, removed, or modified). No more wondering whether a GTM publish caused a conversion drop.

Tag audit — Lumen scans the active container for common issues:

  • Tags firing without consent configuration
  • Duplicate tags tracking the same event
  • Triggers that are too broad (all pages, all clicks)
  • Orphaned triggers not attached to any tag
  • Missing dataLayer variable references

Consent audit — checks that Consent Mode v2 signals are present, default consent states are configured per region, and tags have the correct consent categories assigned.

How to connect:

  1. Go to SettingsData Sources
  2. Click Add Data SourceGoogle Tag Manager
  3. Sign in with your Google account and grant read access
  4. Select the GTM account and container to monitor
  5. Click Save

Lumen runs the initial audit on connection and monitors new container versions automatically from that point forward.

Shopify

Connecting Shopify enables detection of changes that commonly break tracking without any code change on your part.

What Lumen watches:

EventHow it's detected
Theme deploysShopify API / webhook
App installs and uninstallsShopify API / webhook
Checkout extensibility changesShopify API

Each event creates a timeline annotation. If a conversion drop follows a theme deploy by less than an hour, Lumen surfaces that correlation directly in the investigation.

How to connect:

Shopify is connected as part of the standard TrustData integration. If you already have Shopify connected for revenue data, Lumen monitoring is enabled automatically — no additional setup needed.

If Shopify is not yet connected:

  1. Go to SettingsData Sources
  2. Click Add Data SourceShopify
  3. Enter your Shopify store URL and follow the OAuth flow
  4. Click Save

Manual annotations

You can add your own annotations to the timeline for changes Lumen can't detect automatically — budget shifts, creative swaps, landing page updates, or anything else worth tracking.

  1. Click any point on the timeline
  2. Select Add annotation
  3. Enter a label and optional description
  4. Click Save

Manual annotations appear on the bottom track alongside automated change detections.
